The context

Slipstream is the portfolio's arcade racer; BoxBox is the opposite: a Formula 1 race the way it looks on TV, on the real layouts. The player drives Colapinto's #43 against seven rivals, and around the car is everything that makes a broadcast readable without explanation: five start lights, a timing tower, sectors, DRS, team radio and pit stops.

What the system does

  • The real Monaco, Spa-Francorchamps and Bahrain layouts, taken from their GeoJSON: the corners are where they are, with hand-set elevation —the climb to Casino, Eau Rouge— and the Monaco tunnel
  • Single-seater physics with downforce: grip grows with the square of speed, so fast corners are nearly flat out and the Monaco hairpin asks you to brake from 175 to 35 mph
  • Seven rivals that follow the racing line on a speed profile built from the same physics, each with their own pace, mistakes and appetite for overtaking
  • Gaps measured the way a broadcast does it: every ten meters the first car through logs the time, and from that come the timing tower, the interval to the car ahead and the one-second DRS rule
  • Sectors in purple, green and yellow, fastest lap, ERS that drains and recharges under braking, and tyres that wear according to how hard you push them
  • Pit stops: request one with a key, the car drives the pit lane on the limiter, switches compound and rejoins
  • Three cameras —chase, onboard and fixed trackside TV cameras with zoom— and Bahrain at night under the floodlights
  • Sketchfab cars (CC BY 4.0) with two levels of detail, Poly Haven textures and skies, and trees as impostors photographed from the real model: eight cars on screen at over seventy frames per second
